Mashing up

sig.ma

I just want to express my fascination about the mashup concept. Thanks to internet, people and companies publish data and services which others collect to cross data and publish new services.

Like in real life, for centuries, people like to mix the knowledge learnt from others and show it with a touch of customization.

Some famous mashups are based on the combination of google maps and "hotspots" localization, i.e. real states, pictures, people or whatever.

Today I will introduce a new one called sig.ma. It's a kind of meta search engine. A structured way of show data from different sources. The introductory video is self explanatory.

My first impressions about sig.ma:

  • I understand it as another dimension in the search space.
  • In some way it is similar to Wolfram Alpha, although I'm not sure about if this could be considered as a mash up.
  • If it becomes enough successfull other will buy it.
